Couchettes side walls consist of 30mm GRP sandwich panels. Likewise the floor, here in the 70’s the carpet was laid directly on the upper GRP layer without any reinforcement. Over the decades, the hard foam underneath, originally 30mm, has strongly compressed at the walking areas. After the second glass of red wine when walking over this areas, you felt like on a ship with waves 🙂
Another problem arose with the semi-circular built-in table, which began to swing while driving – especially on side roads with potholes – a pain
The table is laminated to the outside wall at the door side right below the large window – a weak point.
Since I anyway wanted to install a table foot attachment above the rear axle, I have drilled a hole at this point – not surprisingly, from the original 30mm hard foam only 10mm were left.
Flux bought a Fine Multitool at Ricardo. ch and separated the upper GRP layer in several pieces
Preparing and laminating the table foot
Prepare a wooden frame for 10 mm plywood inlays with 20 mm insulation.
Since the bottom GRP plate rests loosely on top and bottom everything has to be glued together – especially in the area of the table foot
Cut and glue in the wooden frame, cut the plywood, cut and insert the hard foam, finally glue the panels
trimming the GRP plates
Glue in the GRP plates
