Couchette had a 60 litre plug-in tank, roll welded from 0. 8mm sheet metal. The tank was inserted from the interior and covered with foam and carpet. Inside the tank no baffles werde installed. The tank was leaking in places and the carpet was visibly discoloured in the lowest 10 cm. Especially after a full tank it stank of petrol. A tank-vent was also missing. Due to the flat filler neck, petrol foam rised up during refuelling and triggered the automatic shut-off.
Original Tank
Chassis
Chassis extended (blue), rear traverse bar cut out for the underfloor tank (- first I wanted to install the filler neck as well, then I left it out for cost reasons)
2008 got a new 65 liter tank from B5 Group GmbH.
Material chromium steel 1.5mm
Finally, after tank was installed i completed it completed with tank ventilation plus expansion vase from a Mercedes. The sensor for the fuel gauge is the original from Estafette (slightly modified because of the lower tank height)
As a temporary solution, 2 black wooden covers were inside mounted for about 3-4 years, then replaced by glasfiber sandwich plates
