For the carbon brush holder 77001006838, I have not found a replacement in the original version. But there are standard carbon brushes in the dimension 6.4/4.6 and can be easily soldered in – but may have to be shortened a little in length.

Alternator Valeo 50 Ampere

Alternator Valeo A13N49 – 50A can be used as a replacement. It has an integrated voltage regulator and a connection for a charge control light. When installing it must be made sure that the 5mm connector (Ignition-Plus) is used. This is the smaller contact on the carbon holder. Here I connected the original voltage regulator cable – under the dashboard I bridged (Plus and EXC connected). On the EXC cable I mounted a 6.3mm connector. So the battery power now flows directly to the integrated regulator in the alternator when switching on. I did not disassemble the old regulator – you never know – the new one could smoke 🙂 – for quick switching I mounted a cable with 6.3 mm socket to the old regulator.

Victron DC-DC Ladebooster

In 2023, it burned a diode to the D1 connection on the alternator (to control the relay for the second battery) and the charging voltage was extremly low. Together with the 50 Amper Valeo I have now bought a used Orion Tr 12/12 30A Smart Charge Booster (insulated, with Bluetooth). Insulated means that the second battery does not go to ground with minus but is fully insulated to the starter battery – so it has 4 connections instead 3 (common in a motorhome) In addition to the lithium battery mode, the Orion also has a gel battery mode. The device detects whether the engine is running and the charge of the second battery can be controlled depending on the voltage.
Unlike other boosters, the Orion has no ventilation but an aluminum cooling element.
The light blue cover is also made of aluminum. During the test with the battery charger, at an ambient temperature of about 28 degrees and almost empty ancient gel battery (100 amps) – the heat sink became 37 degrees warm !
The device should therefore be installed accordingly. In my case – for Couchette, I made a frame for the Orion – so that the heat sink is outside the battery box
